At the Village Market IGA we strive to make our store the best place to work. It is our belief that if our employees are satisfied than customers will be more than satisfied when they shop here. Our department heads enjoy a great deal of latitude in the day-to-day operation of the departments. They readily assist and encourage their staff to excel!
Hiring and training is a group effort. Typically we interview at least twice to ensure that each prospective employee will achieve their personal goals while working in our store. Once hired you will start with a computer based introduction to the food industry, employee safety, customer safety, sanitation and merchandising, customer service, alcohol sales training, tobacco sales, ., and an overview of your home department. After successfully completing this phase you are given a store tour and introductions to the rest of the staff. Now you are ready to start your job training and are assigned your own personal trainer and a checklist of many of the tasks that we will train you to complete.
If we start with the right attitude, add proper training, the only ingredient missing is the compensations!
